A friend of mine, who lives in Gatlinburg, TN, thought that I needed to sculpt a black bear. I had wanted to do one anyway, so I gladly obliged. I learned that Gatlinburg was in the Smokey Mountains and that Smokey Mountain National park is home to many black bears and in fact is quite famous for it’s large their large black bear population.  So as a tribute to both my friend and to one of our national treasures I decided to name the bear “Old Smokey.”
